No School

Both AM and PM students do not attend school Thursday, March 21st and Friday March 22nd but parent teacher conferences are scheduled for both of these days.

Please go online and book if you haven't already and we're looking forward to meeting with you over the next two days.

Kindergarten Update

Parent Teacher Interviews

If you haven't already please go in to book a time for a parent teacher interview!  We're looking forward to seeing all of you and having the opportunity to share with you and celebrate your child's learning.  Students are asked to attend with parents and we'll see you all soon.

Students return to school on Monday, April 1st.  A reminder to bring in library books on the first Monday back.

When we return we'll be beginning our work and rehearsals for the Kindergarten assembles taking place April 24th for the AM students and April 25th for the PM students.

Students thought it was cool that they are beginning Spring Break on the first day of spring!

In Kindergarten This Week

Parent Teacher Interviews This Week

Parent Teacher Interviews are this upcoming Thursday, Thursday evening and Friday until 1:00.
If you haven't booked a time there are still times available and go online and please book.  We're looking forward to meeting with all of you and sharing your child's progress and what's coming up in the final three months of Kindergarten!

This week's letter is y.  Watching videos featuring words with y is helping the students with this letter challenge.

Tomorrow is pajama day and students are excited to wear their pjs.  They can bring a stuffy/stuffed toy as long as it isn't too big and the criteria is that it can fit comfortably in their backpack.

Library today is viewing the Scholastic Book Fair.  Books are being handed in but no books are being taken out this week.

Moving Forward

Spring break is just around the corner and the kindergarteners are beginning to wrap up their zoo inquiry. The grade 1/2 students came to visit Room 3's zoo while the kindergarteners acted as zookeepers. Moving forward we are going to be start an inquiry about the environment and how we can take care of our planet.

Bowling Field Trip in May

The kindergarteners will be walking to go bowling at the Thorncliffe Greenview Community Centre in May. We will require 4 volunteers per class to make this trip possible, and all volunteers must have a CBE police clearance. Getting this clearance can take up to a month to receive. If you are able and willing to volunteer for this field trip please stop by the office to ensure that you have an up-to-date clearance or to begin the process to get your clearance.

Math Task

Today the kindergarteners completed a math task that highlighted to concept of smaller and larger, as well as comparing numbers. Take a look at the question below.

Dare to Care

Today the kindergarteners got a special visit from Ms. Kim from the Dare to Care program. She taught the kindies the difference between conflict and bullying. Ask your child if they remember the difference - bullying is when the conflict happens for one week or longer. We learnt some words that can help us if we are getting bullied such as "Stop it" and "Please help me". 


Reminders:
- Mondays and Thursdays are library days 
- The Bookfair will take place on Thursday, March 21st and Friday, March 22nd during conferences 
- Parents teacher conferences are on Thursday, March 21st and Friday, March 22nd, a booking link will soon be provided
-PJ day is on Tuesday March 19th, students are welcome to wear their PJ or regular uniform and can bring a stuffy that can fit in their backpack (no larger)

Bussing Information

Subject line: Thorncliffe Kindergarten pm Bus A

Attention Parents who have children riding Bus A in pm Kindergarten,
Due to a community citizen complaint regarding the stop location we have moved the following bus stops: Please find below the route update for Thorncliffe Kindergarten PM A Bus:

  1. Stop #1 (previously located at Northbound Panorama Hills Drive after Panorama Hills Gate NW at pathway) is now stop #6 located at: Eastbound Panorama Hills Drive after Panorama Hills Circle NW at the green space.

Other changes: -the stop order on the route is changed and each stop has a new pickup time.
The new route update and new stop times are now available online at the CBE transportation website and will be effective March 13, 2019.

Parents, please remember to follow the laws of the road regarding making u-turns and parking. Please be respectful to the public and citizen properties. We thank all the parents who continue to make safe driving choices and are respectful to public and citizen properties.

Remember to check the CBE transportation website to locate your new stop location and pickup/drop off times.

Reminders

PM students only attend school this upcoming Friday.

Thursday is library day for all students.  Thank you for making sure that all the discs are returned with the read aloud audio books in the plastic envelopes.

Students are putting their building and mapping skills to work and can't wait to show you their class zoo during the upcoming parent teacher interviews.

Students are working on pre-volleyball skills and ask your child or children what new ball skills they are learning in gym.

A math problem solving task is coming home soon so watch for it in the next few days and please initial or sign before returning.

This Week in Kindergarten

The letter this week is w.  Students are enjoying the challenge of brainstorming a long list of words that start with or have the letter w in them.

Parent Information Night: Dare to Care:  Bully Proofing Your Child

If you haven't already please return the RSVP found at the bottom of the parent information sent home with students.  It's great opportunity to learn tips and guidelines to support identifying when it's happening and how children can make positive choices while using social media and other technology.  All parents are encouraged to attend.
