Literacy

This week students have been listening to stories read aloud by their teachers and sharing their favourite parts or retelling what happens in the story. Ms. Rothe's class listened to the story I Want to Be Tall and Ms. Phillips' class listened to the story When Stella Was Very, Very Small. Ask your child what the story was about.

Spelling Words This Week

This week we are learning the double grapheme sound er. Students have learned many words that end in er. Our spelling words this week are sit, on, grass, smell and flower. Can you child create a sentence that uses all of the spelling words?

In math we have been learning about 3-D shapes and estimation skills. Students are learning the importance of making a realistic guess based on a hint or what they already know. Here is a game that you can play with your student at home.


There is no school for AM students this Friday, PM students attend school this Friday.

Weather permitting we are taking the students outside for outdoor learning and gym.

Students are learning about 3-D solids and continuing to do math learning and centers for making 10.

Read Aloud - Eat Your Peas - Children's Book - by Kes Gray

This Week in Kindergarten

The double grapheme blend for this week is "ee".  Challenge your child to tell you 10 words with the double ee grapheme.

The word work and spelling words for this week are fish, rabbit, pet, it and by.  Students have been using these words in simple sentences.

AM students attend school on Friday.

Thank you for returning library books in such a timely manner.  It is appreciated and Mrs. Strome is congratulating students on bringing in their books and the excellent care that students are taking to keep them in good condition!

We are learning about healthy and unhealthy snacks an students are doing sorting activities, art and charting tasks for health and active living.

Happy May Long Weekend

Just a reminder that there is no school on Friday, May 17th or Monday, May 20th. Students will return to school on Tuesday, May 21st. On Tuesday it is Multicolour day. Students are invited to wear their uniform OR as many colours as possible!

Coming up in Math

We have been working on Friendly Tens in Math and are slowly going to start transitioning into learning about 3D shapes. We will review different 2D shapes and compare them to various 3D shapes.

On Tuesday, May 21st students are invited to participate in our spirit day which it Muli-Colour Day. Students are asked to wear as many colours as possible on this day,

- Math night is tomorrow from 6:00 - 7:30
- No school on Friday or Monday
- Multi-colour day is on Tuesday, March 21st

Coming up this week

This week we are learning about the double grapheme oy. Can your child think of any words that have an oy in them? Our 5 spelling words this week are play, me, was, not and bird.

This week we have a short week. There is no school for any students this Friday and no school on Monday, May 20th.

Math Night is on Thursday, May 16th from 6:00 - 7:30. During this time, parents will learn about a math problem in the gym and then come join their students to work on the task together in the classroom. Please return the green slip if you plan on joining.

Tomorrow Ms. Phillips' AM and PM classes are going bowling. Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather!

End of Week Reminders

Math Evening Thursday, May 16th

Thank you for your response and if you haven't done so already please send in any RSVPs to your student's teacher if you are attending our Mathematical Experience at the school next Thursday.  We're looking forward to sharing this Math evening with you and your children.

There is no school for all students Friday, May 17th.  It is a teacher PD day.
Monday, May 20th there is also no school as it's a civic holiday.

This Week in Kindergarten

We are learning the digraph blend ay this week.  Students are brainstorming lists of words that have the ay, listening to poems to work on rhyme and using pictures of words with ay in them then saying the word out loud.

The spelling words for this week are dog, cat, you, for and see.

Library

Please return all library books for Thursday.  Students are working on only having one book to bring back from home and taking one out to prepare them for next year's library rules.

PM students only attend this coming Friday.

Ms. Phillips and her class are doing a book study on When Stella Was Very, Very Small.  Students are learning about characters in a book, continuing to work on retelling stories, identifying key details that are included in their pictures and verbal recounting and sequencing of the events.  

We Have Mail!

Students are bringing home green letters to inform you of the Math evening being held at the school next Thursday evening with a sign up slip for attending that evening to return to teachers.  We would be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the event.  We hope to see you all next Thursday, May 16th.

Worms Returning Home

Our worms are returning home this coming Friday!  It's been a fun and educational experience and we'll miss them!

URGENT! Ms. Rothe's AM Class needs 1 volunteer

WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR ONE MORE VOLUNTEER FOR MS. ROTHE'S AM CLASS. IF WE CANNOT GET ONE MORE VOLUNTEER BY MONDAY, MAY 6TH THE BOWLING TRIP WILL HAVE TO BE CANCELLED. PLEASE EMAIL MS. ROTHE IF YOU HAVE A CBE POLICE CLEARANCE AND YOU ARE ABLE TO VOLUNTEER FROM 9:15 - 11:00.

Friendly Tens

We have been continuing to learn about friendly tens through the use of games. Here is a video that your child can watch to help them remember their friendly ten numbers. We will be assessing student on their friendly tens in the near future.

- Ms. Rothe's class is going bowling on May 8th - 2 students in the PM class need to bring back their Field Trip form and we are still looking for one more volunteer for the AM class. If we cannot get a volunteer then we will have to cancel the field trip
